True Blue, Baby, I Love You

Madonna had the right words. I’ve fallen in love with my Sunbrella True Blue Canvas Fabric. After some agony deciding on what fabric type to use for my French Provincial Sofa, I finally settled on something simple, yet vibrant. I”m on a roll this week, let me tell you!

I decided against using a pattern so that I can easily modify the look/feel of the sofa as my life, mood, or setting changes. I really wanted some color though, particulary blue. Ever since I saw Kate Middleton’s Blue Lace Dress, I’ve had it in my head that this sofa is gonna be blue. Just a matter of finding the right shade to match our carpet and other decor. And here it is…

Don’t you just love it?

So how is the rest of this story going to turn out? Well, I have grand plans of re-painting the wood frame of the sofa…something grey-ish perhaps? Or a distressed finish? I found some new inspiration to help me out. What do you think?

I love the rainbow of blues on this Loius XV style chair. It’s a great new take on a classic. Here are some more images.

Fabrics: Zig-zags, Chevrons, Ikats…

And other geometric shapes or solids? Yes, I’m still at it! (Read my post here to catch up). Just when you think you know what you’re going for, it doesn’t quite turn out the way you had expected.

My fabric samples from Spoonflower (Etsy-equivalent for fabrics) came in the other day. Spoonflower, by the way, allows you to print your own fabric designs. It’s such a great startup concept.

Anyhoo – here they are:

This is the Chevron fabric by Ravynka. It really is a funky pattern, isn’t it!

This is the Zig Zag by Brownpaperpackages.
I’m torn because I do love the pattern. The background of the fabric is just too white, I think for the look I was imagining. I planned to paint the wood frame on the sofa with an antique white finish, which would not match the white background on either of these fabrics. I suppose one alternative would be to paint the wood frame a blue or even yellow?? But I don’t think I want to go too much on that funky route. So, what are the other options?

Country Cabin in Bluebell by Robert Allen.

Sultana Lattice in Luna by Iman.

Kalah in Blue.

Or I could go with solids. Like this Sunbrella fabric in Baltic color. I could just spice it up with pillows and accessories.

Or Endow Saffire.

Or another Sunbrella in Navy.

I was told by the fabric expert at Calico Corners that Sunbrella may be a good option for constantly used furniture. It should last a long time and deal well with everyday wear. Has anyone used Sunbrella for interior upholstery?

I think, I’m leaning toward the Country Cabin in Bluebell by Robert Allen. But not completely sure. What do you guys think?

Sincerely,

Close-Enough Coffee Table

I was so bummed the other day when I found the perfect coffee table style I wanted but it didn’t quite fit the budget. So what’s a gal to do when she can’t get the expensive option? Look for deals at Overstock.com, Amazon.com, Craigslist.com, and a general search on Google.com will do, too! Search terms: gold, metal, glass, coffee table.

From Becker Furniture World

And I even discovered the name of the coffee table style I originally wanted: St. Tropez Sanremeo Bunching Cocktail Table by Lexington Home Brands (aka Lexington Bunching Cocktail Table).

From CSN Stores

I wanted to get two of these and place them together like the pic above. CSNstores.com them on sale at $485.10 for one, in case you’re interested.

Well, here are alternates I found as options. Reasonably priced and still gives me the the gold, metal, glass top look I was looking for.

From Amazon.com

This is the Steve Silver Emerson Coffee Table (and End Tables) in Bronze (looks gold enough). $260.00

From Amazon.com

This one is the 3pcs Coffee and End Side Table Set in Bronze Finish by Poundex. $193.70

From The Simple Coffee Table Store

I think this one might be the winner. It’s the Ellipse Rectangular Cocktail Table by Hammary. $200.00

Kate Middleton and Chevron Upholstery Fabric

What do the Duchess of Cambridge and chevron upholstery fabric have in common? Royal and Blue. As you know, I recently couch swapped on Craigslist — selling my couch and purchasing a French provincial sofa.

French Provincial Sofa

I had not a clue of what I wanted to re-upholster it with, until I saw this:

Kate in Blue Lace Dress by Erdem

Stunning, don’t you think? It’s by Erdem. Here’s another image.

The Peach is in need of a pop (or maybe a few pops) of color, after all. The living-dining-kitchen area is so…how shall I say it…brown. So here we go with our royal blue.

Royal Blue

And the fabric pattern? Why not Chevron, which a zig-zag pattern? Here are a couple I am considering.

large scale chevron - white and navy

Zig Zag - Royal

I think it will add a more contemprary look to the traditional-ness of the sofa, don’t you think?

Gold, Metal, Glass, Deco Side Tables

I want these!

But they’re soooo expensive. $800 together (and that’s on sale!). The hard thing about re-decorating is that you never have enough money when you find THE THING you’ve been looking for. Priorities, priorities. Do I want the tile backsplash that best matches my new granite countertop (discussed here and here) or do I want these beautiful-would-go-ever-so-perfectly with my “new” French provincial sofa?

Oh, the choices.
